Making the Cut – Training Our Surgeons
Thursday, 24th March @ 7.00PM
We go inside the Medical Engineering Research Facility (MERF) at the Queensland University of Technology with Dr Ross Crawford to see students and doctors receive surgical training.
MERF is the first facility to support the full cycle of research and training activities for new surgical devices and techniques – particularly to meet Australia’s emerging needs in orthopaedics (relating to bones, joints, ligaments, or muscles) and artificial organs.
The sensitive aspect is obtaining cadavers for all this research and training. In Australia, you have to “opt-in” to donate your body to science and participation rates languish at 2-3%. See a couple talk about why they decided to make a body donation.
